To say that I simply love shooting events — is not enough. I adore stepping into a space alive with people, art, and emotion, and disappearing into it with my camera.
There is something irreplaceable about event reportage: the way a single evening contains hundreds of unrepeatable moments. A glance exchanged between strangers standing before the same canvas. Laughter that dissolves before you can name what caused it. The particular quality of light in a room full of people who all chose to be somewhere beautiful together.
I love working with these elements — capturing personal observations, unexpected compositions, and the quiet layers beneath the surface of every image. What remains after the night ends is not a record, but a feeling. An imprinted trace.

A full house for an extraordinary evening. The DUO exhibition brought together two very different voices — the encaustic landscapes of Sue Gordon, rooted in the Saskatchewan prairie, and the luminous, light-sensitive paintings of Aliana Au, who found her artistic second home on the banks of the Red River. One room. Two worlds. One unforgettable night at Soul Gallery, Winnipeg.
On one wall — Sue Gordon’s encaustic paintings: layers of wax and pigment built up and scraped away, landscapes obscured, horizons walled. On the other — Aliana Au’s Changing Light: the pinks and golds of a Manitoba winter sky, seen through the eyes of someone who arrived from China and was stopped in her tracks by the sheer openness of the prairie. The contrast was breathtaking.

The youngest guests at the opening. Aliana Au has said that for her, art-making is “a journey that simultaneously exhausts and regenerates.” Maybe that’s why even the children seemed at ease here — there’s something deeply human in both artists’ work that crosses every age.
